Meet Your TLC Tutor
Name: Gabrielle Smith
How long have you been a TLC tutor: First Year
Hometown: Hartland, Michigan
Year in School: Sophomore
Dream Job: CIO of a Tech Company
TLC: Other than a student, and a tutor, are you involved in anything else on campus?
You: Yes! I am involved with the Auto Show and every year I have been a part of a different team. I love the experience it gives me and I always learn a bunch of stuff about cars that I did not know before. I am also a part of the Honors Association and DECA. This year I joined the National Society of Leadership and Success, which is in its first year of existence here at Northwood. I hope to be involved in leadership positions in the Honors Club as well as the National Society of Leadership and Success next year!
TLC: Do you feel your experience as a tutor has been beneficial to you?
You: Of course! I always enjoyed helping my sisters with their homework and working at my mom’s school as a para-educator. These experiences gave me a great foundation in tutoring to build upon. Helping students my age is awesome because I get to help them on their educational journey and they get to walk away satisfied that they learned something. There is no better feeling than helping someone understand something that they did not know before. I know this job has helped me with my communication skills and has made me a better learner as well in the process!
TLC: Would you recommend working at the TLC to your friends?
You: I do all the time! This is one of the best jobs I have ever had. Most of that is because we have a great team and leader! Everyone here is super easy to talk to and if you have any questions, no one hesitates to help you.
TLC: Gabrielle is an absolute super star in the TLC. She definitely has a natural gift for teaching and always goes the extra mile to help her tutee. With a 3.96 GPA, to say she is smart is an understatement! Gabrielle is bright, friendly, easy to talk to and a valued member of our TLC Team!
