This week started with a powerful lightning storm that made us all feel a little “powerless,” but we pulled together and made it through! Though our first day of classes were delayed, we had a busy week with our annual events including Hall Olympics, Emerging Leaders Leadership Forum, the Kick-Off Party and of course, Opening Convocation. On Wednesday, we ushered in a new theme for the 2018-19 academic year, lead. We are encouraging our students to embrace the idea of leadership in everything they do, and I am confident they will exceed expectations. Opening Convocation serves as one of the most important events of the year because it is one of the only times our entire student body gets together. We also use the opportunity to honor the recipients of the Naegele Distinguished Community Service Award. This year we honored J.W. and Yvonne Fisher, you can read more about them here.
In conjunction with the celebration of our new academic year, Northwood University was proud to welcome guests from our industry partner Cox Automotive. EVP and founder of vAuto Dale Pollak delivered the keynote address to our students, which you can watch here. We also used the opportunity to dedicate the Cox Automotive Solutions Lab, a cutting-edge lab for our automotive marketing and management students to apply practices used in actual dealerships across the country.
Overall, it was a great week to kick off the new year and to get excited about the possibilities and potential ahead. As we officially conclude the summer with the Labor Day holiday, I hope our Northwood family returns next week ready to make it the best year yet.
Have a great weekend!
