Toyota Motor Sales originally introduced a strategic simulation course in the early 1990’s as a program intended to train the company’s management trainees and dealers. In 1997, in Geislingen, Germany, Northwood University used an adaptation of the course in an international event, which has grown in numbers and fame over the last two decades. Now known as NU-CARS, or Northwood University Comprehensive Automotive Retail Simulation, this year’s event hosted 68 students from eight different institutions, representing the countries of China, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and USA. Just this week these students came together to apply their automotive expertise and expand on their experiential skills.
One of the greatest benefits of NU-CARS is the opportunity students from all over the world have to work together. At Northwood, we recognize the global, multi-cultural aspects of business are immensely beneficial for today’s world. Students who arrived in Denmark last week as strangers learned more about each other, worked through marketing and negotiation techniques together, and ended the week as strong, goal-oriented teams. NU-CARS is a program which reinforces the global nature of Northwood.
These students here today will not only go through this exercise and learn much about themselves and one another, but they will make life-long friends and possibly even future business associates. That is truly the power of Northwood’s philosophy transcending borders and cultures.
