Last week the Northwood community here in Midland experienced a nearly unprecedented rain event which led to flooding throughout the community and affected a few buildings on our campus. The impact of the flood will likely be felt for months, but in large part due to the efforts of Northwood’s people, our university returned to operations and “business as usual” Monday morning. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the members of our Northwood family—many of whom experienced flooding in their own homes—for helping us to prepare, monitor and maintain throughout the flooding. As America prepares to celebrate Independence Day next week, we are flooded by feelings of patriotism and gratefulness for the liberty and freedom our country affords us. At Northwood University, we don’t take these fundamental rights lightly. Central to our philosophy and our code of ethics, it is the responsibility of all of us to be accountable for the well-being of others. Through lending a helping hand to a colleague displaced by flooding or helping to keep our campus safe for visitors, the Northwood family truly exemplifies the mission of our institution.
I wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday surrounded by family and friends. President’s messages will resume August 4, 2017 as we prepare to welcome our next class of future leaders this fall.
Have a great weekend!
