Experiencing the Raw and Refined

Tomorrow night marks one of the most exciting events of the year for our university - the Northwood University Annual Stafford Memorial Dinner. For 42 years, this event has been the hallmark of our Hospitality Management program. The scholarship dinner is held in memory of William D. Stafford, the first Chairman of the Hotel, Restaurant and Resort Management department at Northwood. Stafford incorporated his expertise from years in the hospitality industry into the curriculum at Northwood, leaving a lasting mark on the Hospitality Management program. He was a pioneer in what is now a very important part of Northwood: experiential learning.

The Stafford Dinner is an excellent opportunity for Northwood’s students to showcase their industry skills and professionalism to alumni, family, and leaders of the hospitality industry. Each year they step out of the classroom to apply hands-on skills to provide guests with a memorable evening. These students have planned, prepared and implemented tomorrow’s festivities for the enjoyment of the attendees.

On Saturday, our students will show how they have applied all they have learned at the venue for this year – the Frankenmuth Brewery in Frankenmuth, Michigan - with a dinner themed “Raw and Refined.” I hope many of the Northwood family will attend the Stafford Dinner to see the culmination of our students’ hard work.
