Not all forms of excellence can be measured numerically, but recently Northwood University has been recognized with some impressive statistics. At the 2017 DECA State Competition, 30 Northwood students proudly represented our University and brought home honors. Twenty of our students were recognized as finalists, and eight qualified for the DECA National Championships in April. Two students were first-place winners, five received second-place, and one placed third. With a young and exciting team, Northwood Collegiate DECA has a very bright future.
We’ve also achieved successes on a very different field. After reviewing the fall 2016 semester, 99 Northwood student-athletes earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic honors. Of these students, 47 received All-Academic honors, and 52 are on the All-Academic Excellence team for carrying cumulative grade point averages of 3.5-4.0.
The latest competition held last weekend featured 44 students representing Northwood at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Competition. A total of 18 of our students placed in the top three in their categories and qualified to represent our University at the national competition later this spring.
When all these numbers are added up, they equal excellence. They represent hard work, dedication to education and to one another, and leadership. It is part of who we are, exercising our unique abilities to accomplish great things, and applauding the achievements of others.
We look forward to seeing similar successes for our academic and athletic teams in the future.
Have a great weekend!
