This week, I had the opportunity to speak at the Detroit Economic Club, which, since 1934, has served as a platform for discussion of important issues from here in Michigan and across the nation. The meeting this week was no different, as Northwood University, Walsh College and Lawrence Technological University took the stage to explore how Michigan’s private higher education institutions serve as a powerful workforce generator. Northwood offers its students incredible opportunities, and does so with incredible efficiency. Yesterday I shared some of our accomplishments, such as our “Best Value Business College” award from PayScale’s Return on Investment report.
I mentioned how the Northwood experience includes many different types of opportunities. We were the only university represented on stage with international program centers in several countries around the globe; we also were the only university with a presence on multiple military bases across the United States; and we were the only university belonging to an NCAA Division II athletics conference. One of the things we teach is it is the differences among us that make us interesting and useful to each other, and creating opportunities for all people helps us put this into practice.
As our discussion turned to projections about the future of higher education, I thought about our greatest value, the Northwood Idea. This idea serves as our compass, guiding and preparing our students to be tomorrow’s leaders, free-thinkers, and innovators. Without a doubt, Northwood is heading in the right direction.
Have a great weekend!
