Making a Difference

Today the Northwood University family, alongside dozens of community agencies, goes out into Midland to Go MAD—Make A Difference. One of Northwood’s close friends, Dr. Kathryn “Kitty” Hach-Darrow knows what it means to make a difference. She is a business pioneer whose life work has led to improved water quality supplies worldwide. Kitty, a Northwood University Outstanding Business Leader honoree, celebrated her 94th birthday yesterday, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate her than to collectively make a difference today.

Students on our residential campus are familiar with the Hach name because Kitty also supports the ideals we stand for at Northwood. Kitty’s legacy on our campus are the classrooms, social areas and sports facilities of the Hach Student Life Center. Her vision for the future leaders of business is a hub of activity at the core of the Northwood experience.

Kitty has supported the Outstanding Business Leaders scholarship fund and the creation of our David E. Fry Endowed Professorship in Free Market Economics. She also established the Kathryn Hach-Darrow Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate women who want to follow in her footsteps and accomplish great things in business.

On behalf of the Northwood family, we wish Kitty Hach-Darrow a very happy birthday! Her support of Northwood students and commitment to our values and philosophy deserve celebration. In her spirit, we go out today to Make A Difference in our community and endeavor to make the world a better place.

Have a great weekend!
