Endowed Chairs an Academic Priority

Excellence in learning begins with excellence in teaching. We know this to be a fundamental truth which is why an important part of our academic strategy is to create Endowed Chair positions for each of our major program areas. An Endowed Chair is an esteemed faculty position for distinguished professors. The chair honors academic leadership and signifies profound responsibility for the chair holder, giving that individual the resources and freedom to pursue new levels of scholarship and research. The best universities use endowed chair positions to attract and retain the highest caliber faculty members.

Respected banker, mentor and community leader Alan W. Ott is the face of Northwood’s newest endowed chair—the Alan W. Ott Endowed Chair in Finance and Community Banking. From Northwood’s very beginning until today, Alan has recognized the value we bring to the public, and has been a leading advocate for our continued growth and success.

With large shoes to fill, the faculty chairperson selected to represent the Alan W. Ott Endowed Chair will have proven academic leadership and the ability to apply the Northwood Idea, inspire learners and advocate the lessons of Alan’s career and life for generations to come.

An enormous thank you goes out Alan Ott and other donors who recognize the substantial role our professors play in the excellence of our university. Their generosity and ongoing support improve our University, year after year.
