Soon we will mark an exciting turning point in the lives of our freshmen and transfer students. Each year we celebrate an event we call the Crossover Ceremony. Crossover represents the day these students cross from their careers as high school students to their journey of higher education. A central focus this year, as we go about the vital job of educating future leaders, is our mantra Go MAD! By now many of you know Go MAD stands for Go Make A Difference and it originated with our beloved football coach Pat Riepma, who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer.
This phrase speaks to the Northwood experience and one of the differences that distinguishes a Northwood University education from all others. It reminds us we are part of a family. Like all good families, we take care of one another as we go through the challenging weeks and months of the semester. Sometimes members of our Northwood family face personal hardships too, outside the classroom. And sometimes our community needs us – to clean up a park, to feed the hungry or to share our talents.
With Go MAD, we are continually reminded of our role to support and encourage each other, regardless of the opportunity before us. It calls us to reach beyond our personal circumstances to change a life.
Crossover gives us a chance to make sure our students understand this key piece of the Northwood difference, so they start strong and have a successful year.
For new students crossing over and everyone at Northwood, I urge you to join us as we Go Make A Difference this year. The result will be nothing less than transformational.
Have a wonderful weekend.
