There is a winding road on the Northwood University Midland campus named Naegele Drive. It is named for Robert and Patricia Naegele, who first touched our campus community years ago, when they opened their home in Midland to international students. Their imprint soon extended even further into Northwood with contributions to key growth initiatives and continuous support for campus projects. Soon they established the Naegele Scholarship Program and the Naegele Scholars’ Luncheon, which was their way of leaving a legacy that would extend long into the future.
Over the last few years alone, more than 60 undergraduate students received a Naegele-sponsored scholarship or grant. This incredible impact has enabled a rich learning experience for freshmen, Educational Success Program students and international learners and made it possible for them to pursue additional majors or minors, and to defray tuition, and other direct college expenses.
Bob and Pat Naegele knew well the far-reaching benefits of their commitment. Their goal was to make sure the scholarship recipients could achieve their academic dreams. Yet they may not have realized Northwood University would also be a scholarship benefactor as their generosity reinforced our values as an institution, especially for those enterprising individuals who work together in a free and ethical society.
As we spend the next several weeks preparing for the incoming class of 2020, the meandering Naegele Drive reminds us of the way Bob and Pat wove their way into the hearts of students and the fabric of the Northwood community. Our hope is that their legacies will live on in each scholarship recipient that arrives in the fall.
Enjoy your weekend!
