This past weekend, Northwood University’s prestigious Hospitality Management students put on the 41st Annual Stafford Dinner in honor of the late Professor William D. Stafford, former chairman of the Hotel, Restaurant and Resort Management Department. As a salute to Stafford’s contributions and accomplishments, a team of students channels his energy and spirit into the event, raising scholarship funds for students pursuing Hospitality Management degrees through Northwood.
Dinner attendees enjoyed a Stafford-esque six-course meal by students, allowing them to exercise practical skills they will need each day in their service industries. Apart from French cuisine and dessert, guests were entertained by a magic show performed by NU Marketing student, Cameron Zvara, a silent auction and several prize giveaways. All proceeds collected went directly to the Hospitality Program’s scholarship fund.
Jonathon Evans, an undergraduate student in our Hospitality Management program, was among the student team. A food enthusiast since childhood, Jonathan was recently featured in Traverse Magazine, which highlighted his many involvements in the restaurant and hospitality industries. Jonathan applied his passions for service toward the Stafford Dinner as its Promotional Affairs Director, and put on a fantastic event with his fellow team members.
The Stafford Dinner reminds us of the power of learning by doing. These experiential opportunities help our students hone their ability to plan, solve problems, work in teams and create a common mission for success – all essential skills in our competitive workplace.
Thank you and congratulations to our hospitality students for making this memorable night possible. Your wonderful efforts have allowed us to memorialize Professor Stafford’s in a meaningful way.
Have a great weekend!
