Outstanding Business Leaders Model Northwood Values

For the last 36 years, Northwood University’s Outstanding Business Leader (OBL) Awards have honored American business people for their contributions to this great nation and the world. This year’s honorees are seven individuals whose lives represent the character and values we live by and strive to instill in our Northwood students. They were selected based on their personal and professional achievements, which typify the unique philosophy of Northwood University. And they help us – by the living example they set – tell the story of the value of a free-enterprise society.

This weekend we are honored to recognize the following individuals during our annual OBL Award Ceremony. They join more than 300 others who exemplify the qualities that make our society the best in the world. Congratulations to the 2016 honorees:

  • Robert Baidas, CEO, General RV Center, Wixom, Michigan
  • Thomas Cunnington, partner, Cunnington & Cunnington, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
  • James Massie, co-founder, co-owner, president and CEO, Georgian International, Barrie, Ontario
  • Jonathan Seevaratnam, CEO and founder, Jiggee (M) Sdn Bhd and John Hall (JH Creatives Sdn Bhd) event management companies, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Joseph Serra, president, Serra Automotive Group, Grand Blanc, Michigan
  • Don Tocco, owner, D. L. Tocco & Associates Inc., Troy, Michigan
  • Kim Yost, CEO, Art Van Furniture, Warren, Michigan

A common characteristic of our OBL recipients is their willingness to freely share the insights they have gained in business and life. They did so this week with Northwood students during the annual Student Roundtables. In addition, each honoree was paired with a student presenter who had a special chance to get to know the business leader.

Congratulations and thank you to students Nicole Courtney, Juan Guerrero, Pablo Herndandez, Micaela Johansson, Teresa Marshall, Jessica McNeal and Renee Thompson for introducing the OBL recipients and playing a big part in the success of the event.

Last, the Great Lakes State turned 179-years-old this week. Happy birthday Michigan!

Have a good weekend.
