Northwood University students, faculty and staff are excited to once again spend time in the coming days at the North America International Auto Show (NAIAS). The event runs from January 11 until January 24 at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Now in its 28th year as an international event (the first show was hosted in Detroit in 1901 with just a handful of vehicles), NAIAS is among the most prestigious auto shows in the world. This is where manufacturers reveal their new models, cutting-edge technologies and industry experts share their insights. Northwood University is at the heart of this industry.
The automotive industry is foundational to Northwood University’s history. Hundreds of dealers, marketing professionals, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs); automotive aftermarket professionals and automotive executives were influenced by the quality education they received from Northwood University.
Our students are big fans, as well. No doubt they hope to echo the pace and excitement of NAIAS during Northwood University’s own International Auto Show, held on our Midland campus each fall. Over 52 years, Northwood’s event has become the largest new car auto show in North America. It is completely student run by more than 600 volunteers and features more than 500 vehicles.
The NAIAS and our own Northwood University International Auto Show are prime examples of the way learning intermingles with hands-on activity to create a deeper, more meaningful educational experience. Our students will tell you – it’s impossible to quantify the value of being part of these experiential learning opportunities. They participate with great energy and ultimately graduate with greater knowledge of their field and more expertise to contribute at that first job.
If you have the chance, check out this year’s NAIAS. We’ll see you there.
Have a great weekend.
