For more than 35 years, the E. W. Bennett Center has been a place for excitement, competition, and celebration. Today those same qualities apply, yet now the venue has more seating, better amenities and larger venues for practice and play. On Thursday of this week, we dedicated the renovated and newly named Riepma Arena during a Timberwolves basketball doubleheader, and ushered in another milestone in our commitment to “Drive Northwood University Forward.” The renovation that began in spring 2015 gave us nearly 400 new seats as well as stadium-style bleachers, a viewing pavilion, multiple improved playing surfaces, and locker rooms.
The Riepma Arena serves more than just student athletes and sports fans. It can seat up to 3,000 people for annual events such as Commencement and Convocation, and will be a popular venue for summer camps and various other events. New offices and conference rooms offer excellent academic and meeting space.
Northwood University prides itself on offering state-of-the-art facilities to students, faculty, staff, and the community. These resources create an environment that helps our learners gain knowledge and experience to grow into leaders and entrepreneurs who will shape our future global, free-enterprise society.
This project is just one more stepping stone in our long-term commitment to advance and strengthen Northwood University. In keeping with our philosophy of relying only on philanthropic support to renovate or build facilities and maintain a debt-free university, the Riepma Arena project was funded entirely through the generosity of donors. We are immensely grateful for their faith in us as we continue to strive to be a premier business university based on the free enterprise system.
