Last weekend, a Northwood student filmed part of the 52nd Northwood University International Auto Show (NUIAS) while riding across campus on a longboard skateboard. What made his journey special is that he shared the film via live stream, giving off-site viewers a chance to experience the fun and excitement of our signature event remotely. Live streaming is new to our social media vocabulary at Northwood, joining other growing favorite terms such as post, tweet, favorite, like, share and friend. It’s all part of a comprehensive effort to showcase the Northwood experience from the students’ point of view.
This year, six students became the university’s first Social Media Ambassador team. Their role is to share an unfiltered view of student life here, in the hope that prospective students like what they see. During their inaugural year, the Ambassadors will cover hot topics such as dorm life, the Greek system, cars, campus events, student profiles and more.
Never before have potential students had access to so many facets of university life, or been able to experience our people and culture in such a tangible, transparent way. During Auto Show week alone, our Ambassadors gained more than 100,000 impressions, engaged over 5,000 people, and shared via live stream 11 videos with people across the globe.
We think this is a fantastic way to share our community and our values. There’s no better way to showcase our “learn by doing” philosophy and the ways our entrepreneurial spirit shines in our students.
