Distinguished Women Make a Difference

Tonight Northwood University celebrates and congratulates eight women who are recipients of the Distinguished Women Award. These are women who have made an impact on their organizations and communities through leadership in private, public and nonprofit endeavors. Time and again they lead by example and demonstrate the Northwood Idea through creativity, vision, hard work and collaboration. This year’s Distinguished Women honorees have brought the future to us today, first envisioning it; then creating it through their many and varied accomplishments. They are women who have managed investments for large diversified companies and created unique small businesses producing heartfelt products. They have experienced the challenges of starting a minority-owned business … organizing a scholarship fund for families … and working in the media. They have worked in the halls of Congress, in the corridors of a large healthcare system, and on the trade show floor. All are women who inspire by driving the Northwood Idea forward, demonstrating that with creativity and productive effort, we can overcome obstacles, solve problems and achieve our goals.

In addition to being recognized at the gala tonight, our Distinguished Women were gracious enough to share their wisdom and experiences with local high school students and the public at a forum this morning. They taught us that to achieve progress and make a difference in the world, commitment is a necessary prerequisite and integrity must be at the center of all they do.

Please join me in congratulating Margaret Cooney Casey, Stephanie Curtis, Margery Krevsky Dosey, Candice Miller, Faye Alexander Nelson, Brenda Rowley, Jennifer Valoppi, and Donna Yost, our 2015 honorees. Visit our website for more information about these special women.

We would like to take a moment to remember retired Professor Thomas (Tom) Nehil, who recently passed away. Please keep Tom and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Enjoy your weekend.
