Summer can be a time to take life at a slower pace, but not at Northwood University! Our campus continues to buzz with activity. This year we will have about 3,000 visitors on our campus in Midland, all engaged in activities to develop their leadership skills, athletic acumen and musical talents. We were especially proud to host the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership organization, which brought 220 participants for leadership training and skill development. Along the same lines, the highly respected American Legion Boys State organization had 323 high school students on our campus to teach them about the workings of our local, county and state government. Another 36 students have taken part in six days of free-enterprise fun during the “Learning About Business” camp for high school students.
You may have noticed a thread running through these camper programs. Each one encourages an entrepreneurial mindset and promotes the concepts of free enterprise. These youthful campers learn by doing, under the guidance of skilled leaders and mentors who have personal experience in business fields.
We’ll also enjoy the sounds of music on our campus, thanks to marching band programs from several Michigan high school bands. These include musicians from Freeland, Carrollton, John Glenn, Ann Arbor and Marine City High Schools.
And of course we can’t forget our Northwood student-athletes and teams. Our volleyball, basketball and football teams will be honing their leadership skills during their own camps, role modeling the Northwood Idea, while getting ready to show their Wolf pack pride in the 2015-16 academic year.
At whatever pace you find yourself moving during these lazy days of summer, please take our “warm” wishes along with you.
Enjoy this special summer weekend!
