It’s been said that experience is the best teacher. We take those words to heart at Northwood University, where we weave experiential learning opportunities into every major and program of study. We can look to our Automotive Marketing and Management, Aftermarket Management, and the Motor Vehicle Aftermarket Executive Master of Business Administration programs for perfect examples. The National Automobile Dealers Association conference held in California and the North America International Auto Show in Detroit are avenues for students to be active on the show floor for much of those events, attending seminars, meeting industry professionals and participating in networking opportunities. Of course our own Northwood International Auto Show is entirely student-run, with more than 600 learners from an array of majors participating.
Events such as the yearly HDMA (Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association) and HDA Truck Pride, and the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) and others offer many opportunities for student attendees to take advantage of delivering presentations, product demonstrations, networking and special events. We could cite similar examples for all our majors.
Northwood-hosted programs such as the Distinguished Women and Outstanding Business Leader awards stand out as highlights for our students, who present the honorees and also participate in networking sessions and best practice sharing.
Internships, practicums, seminars, trade shows, speaking engagements - the list goes on. We not only encourage, we expect our students to pursue experiential learning opportunities because we know some of their best learning will happen outside the classroom.
It’s exciting to see our students excel within our walls but even more rewarding to watch them thrive outside our buildings, where they put their classroom learning to practical use. The ultimate reward for this real-world commitment is well-rounded Northwood University alumni successfully contributing at companies all over the world.
Have a good weekend.
