Our Athletes Are Talking...

...And they have a lot to say on and off the field of play. The Northwood sports teams on our Florida and Midland campuses posted an impressive record of successes during the fall season. The Women’s Golf team in Florida is ranked #1 in the 2014-2015 NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 poll and resumes competition in February 2015; and in Cross Country, Florida senior Jacob Alplund finished second overall to lead the Seahawks in the Sun Conference Cross Country Championships. The Seahawks Women’s Soccer team, ranked #15 in the country, is advancing to the final four for the second year in a row, after winning the Sun Conference Championship. In Midland, our Men’s Soccer team claimed the 2014 GLIAC Tournament Championship, with Mike Ankoviak receiving Daktronics All American Honorable Mention honors and Johannes Sterbo being named to the Capital One Academic All American Third Team. The Timberwolves Women’s Soccer team earned the distinction as academic award honorees by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for attaining an overall GPA of 3.43.

This kind of achievement is always thrilling, but as we know sports offer much more than a physical battle. Our athletes have an opportunity to “speak” every time they engage in competition or represent a team. What they say by their sportsmanship, teamwork and commitment communicates volumes about their values, their passion and their maturity. This is about more than winning gracefully and losing humbly. It’s about developing and demonstrating character traits that are foundational to personal and professional success.

We are proud of all our student athletes at Northwood, not simply for their performance but also for the way their actions represent the values we embody at our University.  Congratulations to all our student athletes for a successful fall season and thanks for being exceptional “speakers” on our behalf.

Have a great weekend!
