This week, we have the privilege to honor seven exceptional women whom we at Northwood consider to be outstanding leaders and role models for our students. Our 2014 inductees for the Northwood University Distinguished Women’s Award are Laurie Cunnington, Tamara Darvish, Patti Hamilton, Donna Niester, Catherine Rodewald, Lynn Stinson and Martha Tiller. These women join a group of 350 previous honorees who have been inducted as Northwood Distinguished Women over 45 years of this program. The Distinguished Women's Award was established to recognize the contribution women make to their communities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public and private sector services world-wide. The inductees characterize our commitment to free enterprise, partnership of arts and business, and management in a global society.
Our current recipients, and in fact the entire alumni group of Distinguished Women, represent a broad cross-section of professions and expertise, including law, religion, government, business and nonprofits. They embody the global, diverse and multi-cultural nature of enterprise that we at Northwood work so hard to preserve and protect.
This class of Distinguished Women exemplifies the very reason Northwood University honors them tonight. When organizations and institutions connect to contribute for the common good, we transform the marketplace, providing value to all we do.
In addition to recognizing the Distinguished Women, we also encourage new leadership through the Distinguished Women’s Endowed Scholarship Fund. This fund was established 22 years ago for female students in their junior or senior years at Northwood University to assist with completion of their formal education. This year’s scholarship recipients are Hailey Cusimano on our Florida campus, and Adrea Baughman on our Michigan campus.
It is my honor to introduce our Northwood family to this year’s Distinguished Women honorees. We are thrilled to have such positive role models and leaders associated with our university.
Enjoy your weekend!
