Last Saturday, Northwood University hosted its Outstanding Alumni Awards. Every year, there are awards in four categories bestowed upon alumni who have been continuously making a difference in their workplaces and communities. This year we recognized six alumni who have shown great commitment to the Northwood Idea.
Brett Sutherlin, class of 1995, is the CEO and Co-Founder of fusionZONE and he received the Alumni Achievement Award. “I elected not to work in my family’s automotive business and take a different path in business. This provided me with huge confidence in what I am capable of doing. I started at the bottom, founded my own company and took it all the way to the top.”
Alan Wildstein, Class of 1989, is the President of Alan Jay Automotive Network and he received the Alumni Achievement Award. “Northwood gave me the tools necessary to be successful from an academic standpoint, but it has been the lifelong friendships forged during my time at NU that has most positively impacted my life.”
Craig Smith, Class of 1981, is the Owner of Craig Smith Auto Group & RV Center and he received the Alumni Leadership Award. “My greatest achievement is being an entrepreneur and calling my own shots, which to me is the ultimate freedom.”
Amanda (Bender) Grafilo, Class of 2008, is the Senior Manager CPA at Plante Moran and she received the Alumni Leadership Award. “My favorite memory of Northwood University is meeting my husband, being a part of the Study Abroad program to visit London, and taking advantage of the many leadership opportunities Northwood has to offer.”
Christopher Fletcher Jr., Class of 2003, is a Senior Director of the Federal Government Relations at HMS and he received the Alumni Service Award. During his time at Northwood, Chris spent a term abroad in Europe where he applied Northwood values on a global scale. Not only did Chris attend Northwood’s Midland, Michigan campus, he also took classes at the former West Palm Beach, Florida campus.
Garrett Boursaw, Class of 2010 and 2015, is the Sales Manager at Ford Insurance Agency and he received the Young Alumni Volunteer Award. “My Northwood University education taught me lessons that inspired my personal life. I am a leader in my local community because giving back is just as important as earning what you worked hard for.”
Congratulations to our Outstanding Alumni Award recipients for being wonderful representations of the Northwood Idea. Your leadership and dedication to Northwood University impacts and inspires our students to be leaders in their work, community, and their commitment to free-enterprise.
Have a great weekend!
