This week I took a walk through the Plaster Free Enterprise Center, home of some of Northwood’s core business programs, including Finance. In the heart of the beautiful, newly-renovated building is our finance trading lab, one of the most dynamic spaces on campus, and home to a running stock ticker.
Here, students have the opportunity to follow stocks in real-time. In fact, in one of the finance capstone classes right now, students are able to pick a company they want to do a valuation on, looking at different financial pieces such as the business model, competition, historical finances, risks and investments. It’s the sort of hands-on project you might expect of a finance expert in the industry today, part of the hands-on experiences Northwood provides and employers desire.
In the lab this week I had a chance to speak with Northwood finance senior and Utica, Michigan, native Joe Myers. An avid watcher of stocks, Joe became so involved in his capstone project that he found a way to be featured on CNBC’s Mad Money with Jim Cramer. You can hear Joe ask his question and watch the full episode from this past Monday night by clicking here.
All of this hands-on experience is structured by faculty with real-world practical experience, and we know that gives our students the edge. Just ask Jim Cramer.
Have a great weekend!
