Northwood University presented professors Christin Greiman and John Grether with the Samuel R. Marotta Faculty Ethics Award as the faculty members who best model the ethical standards embodied in the school’s philosophy and mission. Greiman, who teaches in Northwood’s undergraduate program, and Grether, who teaches at the DeVos Graduate School, were during Northwood’s opening convocation ceremony on September 2.

“It is important to note that the honorees for this award are chosen by our senior students,” said Dr. Keith A. Pretty, Northwood University president & CEO. “Both Professors Greiman and Grether not only challenged our students to think about the ethical issues they will face in the future but more importantly the prepared them to respond.”

Created and funded by Northwood University alumnus and board member Robert Grubb in honor of his stepfather, the Samuel R. Marotta Faculty Ethics Award recognizes the undergraduate and graduate full-time faculty members who best demonstrate the following characteristics: a natural enthusiasm toward inquiry of moral and ethical issues; an ongoing effort to bring into class specific leadership examples where moral or ethical issues have altered business decisions; personal character that is an example symbolizing the spirit of the Northwood Idea and its Code of E thics; and a perspective that places personal accomplishment in the larger context of community, societal and spiritual values. The award includes a $2,000 stipend and a plaque.

Christin Greiman is assistant professor of management. She earned her B.A. in Biology from Hope College and her M.B.A. in Management from Northwood University.

John Grether is associate professor of management at the DeVos Graduate School. He earned his B.B.A. in Economics and Management from Northwood University, a J.D. from Michigan State University and an M.A. in economics from Central Michigan University.
