Former Northwood All-American shortstop Elvin Rodriguez was presented the Carroll Beringer SABR College Award between games of a February 8th Knights doubleheader. Currently a student-assistant for the baseball team, Rodriguez will begin his second season in professional baseball later this year. Rodriguez will again hold down the shortstop position for the Rockford (Illinois) Aviators.
A native of Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Rodriguez helped the 2013 Northwood baseball team to a sixth-place finish in the NAIA national rankings. He also helped lead the team to the NAIA World Series.
Rodriguez was named an NAIA All-American for a standout senior season in which he started all 57 games, led the team with a .360 batting average, and was 22 out of 26 stolen base attempts.
